Run As One:
Chapter Eleven

Mercie and Augustine had made it to the back up den safely. Despite his stubbornness, she was able to stitch his cut up just fine. Meanwhile, Molly and Tabor had finished their investigation of the bulldozer, concluding that the most obvious weak point of the craft was the human driver. When the two were about to head to the back up den, Kenny and Nadine joined them. The four then proceeded to destroy the machine by crashing it into a ravine. There was definitely tension between the groups, but this war had to be won together. After a brisk hunt and meal, the four headed to the back up den. Helping one another, they brought a dead fox to Mercie and Augy.

Molly was guiding the group as they carried the fox. "There it is." she said, gesturing to a very small, stone den near the riverside. Entangled roots hung down from the entrance, creating a nice hidden spot.

Two golden eyes peeked out from beneath the entangled roots. Mercie scented Molly and the others before she saw them, but remained hidden, just to be extra safe.

Nadine was in a much better mood now that she had eaten and destroyed that vile machine. She felt a kind of bliss at the thought of having taken some revenge on them for the death of their wolf brethren.

Kenny was still covered with oil, he'd helped drive the machine over the edge and had been the one to fiddle with the engine until he realised a spark plug had been removed. After a bit of pointing they'd found it and taken it over a ravine. He still didn't look exactly happy however, he was curled in a ball, away from everyone else, and staring straight at the floor.

Tabor was like a kid who had just returned from a theme park and was still reeling about the awesome time he had had. He had gotten to drive the evil machine, and it's crash and boom... SO COOL. He wasn't much help on the hunt. The entire event made him a bit hyper.

Molly was first in the group and poked her nose into the cave, sniffing a bit. Yes, they were definitely here. "We brought you guys some dinner." she said, stepping in.

"Good." Mercie said squeezing out of Molly's way. "He needs to eat, he's already gone threw his share of the protein rations we'd stolen from the..." her dry tongue wouldn't let her finish her statement. She got a brief mental whiff of blood and disinfectant and shook it off as best she could.

Nadine spotted Kenny in the corner and frowned. "Always sulking." she thought to herself as she came in with the others. "Its good too, I've been eyeing it the whole way here." she said gesturing at the dead fox.

Kenny raised his head, looking around at the others, scanning them for a moment before curling up again. He shouldn't be here, he knew that much, but he didn't want to leave Nadine alone with this lot... or be alone himself.

"I Stopped the bleeding and stitched him up." Mercie told Molly. "I think he'll be ok but he needs time to rest. He fell asleep after I was done with the stitching."

Molly glanced at Augustine at the back of the cave, pleased he was alright. She turned and helped Tabor drag the carcass in. "Here-" he said, offering it to her.

Mercie had some trepidations about eating while Augy was asleep, but he did need his rest and she'd not had any of the deer they'd brought down two days prior. A fox wasn't much but she was starving and proceeded to chow down. She stripped it of it's fur and settled in on the front shoulders, leaving the meatier back half for Augy when he decided to wake.

Kenny pressed his nose into the floor, eyes hard as he just stayed out of everyone's way. He knew the pack didn't like him, he didn't like this either; he simply wanted to go home, but there wasn't a home any more. He knew why he was still here, and her name was Nadine, and he didn't want to be alone.

Nadine stole another glance over at Kenny before heading over to him. "Hey, why dont ya come and join the group over there?"

"They don't want me over there" Kenny pointed out, nuzzling his head into the dirt "So I won't force them to accept my presence."

"Fuck them." Nadine said with a slight chuckle. "They can deal with it the same way we deal with them."

"Still, no thank you" Kenny huffed, poking his nose slightly against Nadine to show that he was glad she was caring about him. Since she was practically the only one.

Molly stepped over towards Augustine as he lay, curled up in the corner of the den. She didn't get to close, not wanting to wake him. Lifting her head, Molly sniffed, unable to smell his blood at all. Mercie had done a good job patching him up. Unfortunately, this might mean that he will be out of the fight, meaning she would need the others more then ever. Turning around, she casually walked towards Nadine and Kenny. "Hey-" she began, letting it hang there for a moment.

The heavy breath from Kenny's nose stirred the dust in front of him, but he got up, stretched out his front legs and turned to gaze at Molly "Did you need us for something?" It was all he really thought to say, after all Molly had no reason to be chummy with him.

"Listen- I'm tired, we all are. Our homes have been destroyed, I had to give up my only kin," Molly said with a pained tone, "and I know you two have lost a lot within the past week-, but we need to be in this together." Molly wasn't about to beg them to stay, but truthfully, there had been a lot of frustration in the air since Kenny and Nadine's arrival. "We are all a bit on edge and I apologize if you've been feeling mistreated."

Kenny sighed softly, he had to admit, nothing he had been through could weigh up against giving your own kin away. Leaning forward he gave Molly's cheek a soft lick, as if he was trying to comfort her "I'm staying here, don't worry. But it is hard to simply drop my emotions behind me, and it is even harder to be accepted into this pack."

Mercie remained quiet, the only sounds issuing from her location was the cracking crunch of her teeth as they sawed threw the fox's bones.

"Mistreated seems to be a gentle term." Nadine said as she stood up upon Molly's arrival. "Seems like everyone here needs a vacation from this."

Molly's eyes were enough to let Kenny know her thanks. She addressed them both once more, "I'm sure we will all be better acquainted after all of this." Her ear flickered and she glanced over to Augustine for a moment. Believing that he was still asleep, Molly turned back to Kenny and Nadine. "He has a bit of a temper and a superiority complex. Promise to let me defend you next time he gets riled up. I don't want to risk either of you getting hurt." she said in a lowered voice so Augustine wouldn't hear. Molly's tone was stern and she looked the two with very serious eyes.

"Thanks, but I can handle mister testosterone over there." Nadine said. "I dont like having other people fight my battles for me."

Mercie was done with her half of the fox and decided it was time to interject. "If your going to run with us it's her job." She said ambling up to them and sitting down. With new wolves in the pack she was pretty sure she was going to get pushed down the ladder again but she was alright with that, so long as the others knew how it worked. "An Alpha lives for her pack as much as they live for her. Alphas are stronger, more dominant and the males are even worse. I'm sure you realize that from dealing with Augy already. It's her job to keep us safe and Molly is very serious about her job."

"I wont promise that I will keep my mouth shut." Nadine said, "So you will find yourself doing your 'Job' a lot more then usual."

"So long as you don't aggravate him enough for an attack." Molly added. She stretched and ruffled her fur a bit, exhausted from today and wanting rest. "The machines are going to be easy enough to stop. There is a huge blind spot in the rear and the human occupants will be easy to thwart. It's the large wolves that have got me worried. We should get rest soon if we are going to attack tomorrow." Molly sat down, "I do think that we should definitely sleep in shifts just in case those monster wolves decide to wander over here."

"He needs a serious attitude adjustment" Kenny grumbled "But I'll try not to rip his throat out." He'd be able to stand this place if it wasn't for Augustine probably.

"He technically isnt part of this pack." Molly explained i n a low tone.

"Attack?" Nadine said slightly shocked. "When did we decide we were all warriors?"

Mercie scoffed inwardly when Kenny said he'd try not to rip out Augy's throat. It would probably be the other way around considering he was more cowardly than even she was. To Nadine she backed Molly up by saying "How many of us do you think is still out there, maybe 100, 50? These things are chewing up our forest faster than we can run away and who's going to stop them? Are you two going to run the rest of your lives or would you rather act like real wolves and make them do some running instead?"

"Shut up, I'm here aren't I?" Kenny growled at Mercie "Don't even give me a chance do you? It's not like I haven't done exactly what you have over the last few days, if not more."

"Alright alright." Molly said with a slightly raised tone. "Come on guys, let's not start this again. We need to focus. So-" she took a deep breath, "The blind spot is in the rear of the machine. If we run in from here, the humans will be completely unaware of our presence. I have confidence that each of us can take down the driver of a machine completely by ourselves. If we attack at once, we can easily take out six at once." Molly looked over to Augustine, "Well- maybe five."

"Do we know how many there are yet?" Mercie asked, subduing a growl for Kenny. "It'll be easier to coordinate if we know how many we're up against."

"Not sure. Maybe ten at the most? Well...hopefully at the most." Molly said, yawning. She stood up and stretched, ruffling her fur. "Our main concern are those mutant wolves out there."

Nadine didnt honestly care how many wolves were out there and alive as long as she was one of them. These humans could ravage this forest and build a mini-mall there, she will just shoplift from it. She didnt express this though and just listened quietly.

"Til then, we should get some sleep." Molly explained, moving over to Mercie. "So- how bad was it?" she asked regarding Augustine's injury.

"It was deep." Mercy said in a low voice. "I used up nearly all of our thread and sugar trying to stop it." Because of course, sugar could be used as a coagulator and worked very well at it, but Mercie paused and a smile reached her eyes "I wonder if he'll be sweeter now?"

Molly flicked her ear and smirked, "Yea, I bet." she said sarcastically. "Well... he isn't going to like staying back in the cave while we do all the work." she explained, wondering what they were do to with him.

"He'll be sore for a few days and hungry." Mercie told Molly "Someone should stay behind to keep him fed. If something happens to us and no one comes back to take care of him he's liable to die."

"Which means we lose another fighter." Molly exhaled slowly, needing to think. "Who?" she asked, looking to her second for a suggestion. The new kids wouldn't protect him and Tabor wouldn't have a chance to protect him alone.

"I'm the most useless." Mercie said selling herself short as usual "I can stay, I can keep him fed and hidden till he's back up again." Mercie really didn't want to stay behind but Augy needed attention no matter how little he wanted it.

"You better not be talking about me..." Augustine groaned then tried to sit up. The action made his chest hurt like hell but he hardly cared. Due to his blood loss and dehydration, every single one of his veins was screaming. But of course, those two facts weren't gonna keep Augy down.

"Watch it!" Mercie told Augy cautiously "Your gonna pop your stitches if you don't let the flesh have a chance to heal and we don't have enough thread to sew you back up."

Molly's ears perked up at the sound of his voice. Hustling over, her tail wagged a bit, glad that he was awake. "Hey-" she began softly. "Can we get you anything?" Molly had been meaning to talk with Augustine since the attack, but there hadn't been an opportunity for the two to be alone just yet. "We brought you back a fox if you are hungry." she offered, slightly worried Augustine was just going to start complaining about it.

"Great," Augustine said, ignoring Mercie. "I'm starving." Still in human form, he turned back into a wolf, the stitches magically adjusting.

"Easy-" Molly warned, reaching down to the carcass. She chomped down on the rump and dragged it over to Augustine so he wouldn't have to go too far. The stitches were fresh after all.

Mercie sat quietly. By now she didn't expect any thanks from Augy.

Nadine laid down right where she was standing and laid her head on her paws. "Dont have to tell me twice." She said as she closed her eyes. If she was going to die tomorrow then she was going to enjoy this sleep.

Kenny nuzzled the side of her head gently, then she felt him slowly moving down and leaning agianst her. He felt the need to be close to someone right now, and since Nadine was an old friend and the only person who he could curl up to without his head being removed he was taking advantage of this moment.

Augy was indeed starving, but he couldn't make himself eat as quickly as he would like. Focusing on chewing, he ate quietly, trying to make it not look difficult.

Molly watched Augustine for a moment before walking over to Tabor near the entrance of the den. "Hey-" she said with a sweet voice. "Are you alright? You've been so quiet, it's making me worry."

"I just don't have anything to say. You pretty much cover it," Tabor said, having had pretty much zoned out, thinking about future machine destruction. Plus, being well fed in a warm safe place was quickly converting his energy into sleepiness.

Molly nuzzled his shoulder a bit, "Don't worry, everything is going to be fine." Turning to the group now, she said, "We can have 4 shifts tonight, each consisting of about an hour and a half. Any takers on the first one?"

Tabor ducked. He would really prefer the last one. Today was knocking him out hard... what with the long walk to town, the running, the machine destruction...

"I'll take the first." Mercie said standing. Between making a litter to drag Augy, dealing with his crap and sewing him up, she really hadn't had a chance to take a nap. She was tired but the others needed more sleep than she did.

"I'll take the second" Kenny mumbled, not getting up from his position beside Nadine. Hell, if anyone was going to wake everyone else up when those things came it would be him, either while screaming or while gloating. Maybe both.

Nadine pretended to be peacefully asleep and vowed to nip anyone that tried to force a watch shift on her.

Mercie got up and padded her way to the mouth of the cave. Ducking threw the roots that hid their location she slipped out of the den.

"Uhm..." Tabor wanted to go last, but he didn't want to seem lazy. "I'll go third..."

"Alright, now that that is settled. Thanks guys." Molly said to the brave ones that offered to be on lookout. Watching Mercie walk out to the open, she said, "We should go to bed- we have a big day tomorrow." Moving towards the back of the den, Molly curled up and laid down.

"One step ahead of ya boss lady." Nadine thought to herself as she began to drift away into sleep. She hadnt realized exactly how tired she was and how much the slash to her back had hurt her. "Stupid giant wolf things."

Outside Mercie wandered up the creek bed where a small outcrop of rock would offer a decent vantage point.

Kenny clawed at the floor, trying to burrow himself a small niche so he could settle in and have a bit of a sleep before his own shift. He hoped nothing happened tonight.

---The next morning---
Luckily for the pack, the previous night had gone smoothly. There had been no sign of the humans or the giant mutant wolves. The sun was just starting to rise now, giving everything in the wood a light orange hue to match the golden leaves on the trees...at least he trees that weren't destroyed yet.

In the night Nadine had ended up on her back with her paws batting at the air as she dreamed of chasing down a plump looking rabbit. A fly drifted out of nowhere and landed on her nose, causing her to start suddenly and exhale sharply sending dust into the air. She opened her eyes while still on her back and let out a groan of irritation when she saw how early it was.

There was a human sitting in the den, or rather there was Kenny, in human shape, sitting in the den. He'd found it difficult to sleep after his shift, and after clawing back inside he'd just sat there and stared at his hands, curled up in a corner and just watching his own digits.

Nadine, still half asleep, caught sight of the human in the den. Her instincts kicked in and she immediately rolled over onto her feet and prepared to charge when she realized it was Kenny. "Hey. What are you doing?"

Marcie, after her shift, had come into the cave and curled up in the center of the den. She had not yet woken up with the others.

Molly's ear twitched at the sound of Nadine and Kenny chatting. Opening her eyes, Molly lifted her head and looked beside herself. Usually she would find her pups curled up beside her but this time, nothing. Exhaling slowly, she got to her feet and stretched her front paws forward before ruffling her copper-colored fur.
As if sensing Molly wake Mercie was right behind her. He eyes opened but she hesitated to move, reluctant to wake up.

Tabor, in typical teenage fashion was still dead asleep. He was on his back, his tongue hanging out, dreaming about human food. As nice as elk and deer were, he sure did miss pizza and lasagna.

Augustine slowly woke and went to move, forgetting his injury in his half conscious state. He immediately hissed a pained inhaled, stopped moving and glared angrily at the cave wall in front of him.

Augustine's hiss of pain caused Mercie to waken out of the extra few seconds she'd gotten after falling asleep again. She looked up and yawned, her voice making that little high pitched whine you sometimes hear when a canine yawns.

Molly moved over to Augustine, "Are you healed up yet?" she asked curiously. She really hoped he was, primarily because he was the strongest. They would need him for their attack later today.

Due to the wolves' ability to heal super fast, Augustine's slash had healed up to a bumpy, pale streak of fresh shallow skin. The stitches were still there, though they were no longer necessary. The injury was still a bit tender and sore, but overall it was fine now. "Think so," Augustine responded and slowly sat up. His voice was even more gravelly than usual due to a dehydrated throat. He rolled his tongue around in his mouth, hoping to produce some spit but he was all dried up. Remembering the stream outside, he got onto his feet, said "water" to explain what he was up to and made his way outside.

At least he didn't smell like blood anymore. Molly looked from Augustine to Mercie. "We should get those stitches out." Her stomach gurgled a little, they would have to hunt soon. It was a bit worrisome though, most large game had been chased out of the area.

Augustine twitched uncomfortably at Molly's comment and continued on his way. He made his way down the the stream and preceded to take huge gulps of water.

Despite all that happened, Molly still needed to thank Augustine for saving her and Tabor yesterday. Taking a slow breath, she also made her way out of the den. She even nodded a greeting to Nadine and Kenny as she exited. Hopefully the tension between those two and the others would fade from here on out. Molly proceeded to make her way towards the stream where Augustine was drinking.

Mercie sat up as Molly bristled by. She stretched and thought about laying back down, she was still certainly tired enough.

It seemed to take Kenny a distressingly long time to turn to Nadine as she addressed him, nodding slowly to Molly as she went past as well. Finally he licked his lips, let out a small rumbling croak of someone who's voice had faded a while back, and said very softly "I'm fine Nadine... thanks."

Molly walked up next to Augustine and asked, checking again if she smelled blood on him. "Do you think you will be fit enough to fight?" she asked. She bowed her ears back and leaned down to the stream and drank.

"Yeah," Augustine responded, sounding a little offended. Hell, Augustine would fight if his leg was sawed off. "What about the kids in there? They're not exactly fighting types, and even if they were, they're stupid as fuck."

Molly nearly chocked on the water she was drinking from both laughter and shock. She stepped back and sneezed a bit from the water in her nose. Gathering her posture once more, she said, "Which is all the more reason we really need your help. I watched them hunt yesterday and they have really good tracking skills. Besides, didn't you and the group manage to tttttake down a few of those creatures when Tabor and I dropped off the little ones?"

Mercie glared at Auggy from were she sat. Had she been stupid when she dragged him to the den? Had she been stupid when she stopped his bleeding and stitched his wounds?

Augustine laughed his hoarse laugh. "Yeah, me and the group. If the group had any sense, or at least listened to me, the group wouldn't have run into that thing and needed me to save them. You're right, Molly, you guys really do need me."

Molly licked the water from her lips and sat. Feeding Augustine's ego wasn't always a good thing but she had to say it. "I didn't get a chance to say before so...thanks for saving me." She leaned over and rubbed up against his shoulder to show her appreciation.

Nadine frowned and walked up to him. "Now why is it that I dont believe you?"

"Cause we're being forced into a fight we don't want to participate in, among people who hate us and at least one massive cock who we both want to kill, and we left all our friends and even family behind when those machines came, and we don't know if they're alive or dead or hurt and no one seems to care" Kenny said simply, returning to staring at his hands again.

"And im one of them." Nadine though to herself. She plopped her butt down on the ground next to him and looked out of the cave entrance. "Well...the only option we have other then this is to leave and eventually we will just find another pack that doesnt gives two shits about us."

Tabor yawned loudly and slowly sat up. Nadine and Kenny were whining in the corner again, Mercie was awake and- He fully woke up when he saw Molly and Augustine were missing. He was about to ask Mercie where they were and what was happening, but then he realized how stupid his alarm was and he immediately decided to not say anything. "Morning," he said awkwardly to noone in particular.

Kenny waved a lazy hand towards Tabor, acknowledging him if not being openly friendly "I know Nadine... I know that this is the only thing that can happen... but damn I hate how much our lives have turned upside down so easily."

Augustine did not expect Molly's affection. When he was worked up in a mood like this, she usually got pissed off, but she was being so patient and kind to him... His macho attitude melted and he looked a little startled. Of couse, he buried it right away so Molly wouldn't notice. "Don't mention it... It's why I'm here..."

"Thats what happens when you live outside of society and the world." Nadine said as she chewed at a flea on her leg. "Your life is prone to flipping at the drop of a hat."

"Just try and be nice to Nadine and Kenny for me, ok? So what if they aren't They've been through a lot and I'm willing to bet that their entire pack is gone." Molly explained softly so the other couldn't hear. "Don't kid yourself, Augustine, you aren't exactly the easiest person to get along with but for the sake of us all, could you play nice? Even just a little?" From here, Molly was able to glance down at the stitches in Augustine's chest. They really needed to be cut loose.

Augustine smirked and nodded his head, looking out over the stream. There was the Molly he knew. "Yeah, ok. But as soon as they risk anyone's life, including their own, I'm gonna hit 'em like a truck."

"Fair enough." Molly said with a grin, accepting his answer. That was probably the best she was going to get out of him. "Now- want me to help with those stitches? It will probably feel better with them out."

Augustine nodded and looked back. "They itch like crazy," he said. He jerked his head towards a relatively clear sunny spot a few yards off.

Kenny nodded, just hanging his head and resting it between his knees, staring at the floor and trying to stay silent and listen to his own heartbeat. He had to grow up... he had to stop being innocent and emotional. He had to do it fast.

Molly glanced back to the den for an instant. She knew that Mercie could rally the troops by herself. Besides, she would only be gone for a moment. Augustine and Molly had a lot of baggage they needed to take care of the sooner the better. Not to mention- she knew that it was always hard for Augustine to show a softer side in front of the others. Getting to her paws, she walked with Augustine to a sunny spot.

Tabor tried to shake off his discomfort about Molly by distracting himself with something else. He smiled at Mercie and asked, "How ya doing?"

Mercie moved over to sit by Tabor. "I don't know if I can deal with all this hostility any more." She sat her head on her paws and looked straight forward. "Aren't we supposed to be working together? Isn't that what a pack is supposed to be like?"

"To be fair..." said Tabor "Some of us hardly know each other. We haven't really gotten a time to cool off."

Mercie sighed, she felt like she'd been pushed back down to Omega. It was her job to make sure everyone got along and she felt completely useless in her position.

Tabor glanced over at Kenny and Nadine. He didn't really like them. They were horrible debby-downers. Still, some one had to break the ice at some point. "You think we should... you know..." he started in a hushed voice. "Talk to them?"

Mercie was quiet. She only ever talked to Tabor and Molly, sometimes Auggy if she had to. She had the distinct feeling that Nadiene and Kenny did not like her.

Tabor's ears perked and he cocked his head, waiting for an answer. "... I'm thinking that's a no..." He subtly glanced over at Kenny and Nadine and then looked back at Mercie. This was awfully awkward.

Molly and Augustine came through the trees and back into view. It was a bit of a surprise that they weren't fighting with one another. If anything, the two of them seemed completely content. Molly made her way towards the den, "You guys hungry? We really should eat before everything goes underway today."

Mercie still didn't answer Tabor but when Molly came in she rose. Hunger was an excuse to lay off her problems for later. Now there was work to be done and they would all need strength to do it.

Nadine leaned in close to Kenny as to not be heard before whispering. "They totally just did it." She said in a childish way. "I mean, I could tell there was definatly some sexual tension between the two, but when you go off together angry as usual and then come back happy as a clam. Its all obvious."

"At least they've mellowed" Kenny said softly, staring at the floor and chosing not to sniff too much at the air. All this did was remind him of the girl he left behind... or the many girls he left behind, they weren't all his, but he missed smelling something like this and knowing someone was enjoying themselves. He didn't want to smell that right now.

Tabor was getting the same kind of vibes as Nadine and as a result he looked like someone had beaten his mom. Torn between sadness, curiosity and a slowly boiling anger, he stood up and waited for specific orders.

Augustine looked a little... high, like he could skip, which would be a truly disturbing sight. There was a subtle half smile on his face and he was trying his best not to let his eyes roll over and stare at Molly. He had nearly forgotten these feelings and he was a little drunk on them. This morning had definitely been... odd. Good odd but still really weird.

Molly thought it a bit weird that no one replied and were whispering among themselves. "Achem? Anyone hungry? I think all of the big game has left the area. Unfortunately we might have to try and find some rabbit or raccoon."

"It's too bright out for coon but there's clover east of the bank." Mercie told her. "We should be able to kick up a few rabbits."

"I'll help you catch it" Kenny said simply, not saying if he was hungry or not. He didn't know to be honest, he couldn't feel much at the moment; so maybe the slaughter of something small and fuzzy would help him recover.

"Help wont be necessary," said Augy, almost heroically. He was in a good mood, but that didn't mean he was any less of a dick. He turned to leave and looked at Molly, "You coming?" Obviously no one else was invited.

Tabor looked a little alarmed at this and looked at Mercie. He had no idea how to react so he planned to simply copy her.

Molly looked over at Kenny, then to Augustine. "Kenny and anyone else who wants to help can come." she said, not giving him any room to argue. They needed to get to know these new wolves and that wouldn't happen by ignoring them.

Kenny stood up silently, turning into a wolf as he did; his fur seemed surprinsgly wilted as he walked sedatley to Molly's side. He honestly had stopped caring what Augustine said... he'd basically toned him out.

Nadine snorted and mumbled something about Augustine still being an ass despite getting some before plopping back down on the ground.

Molly sniffed at the air briefly before looking back to the others. "Tabor and Nadine, are you two coming?" she asked, seeing that they hadn't said anything about hunting.

Mercie headed out of the den and headed down stream a few paces and took a drink, waiting for whoever else would be joining them.

Kenny watched as Mercie went past, his lips suddenly feeling very dry as he saw her drinking from the stream. He followed her, sniffing at the water for a second to see if there were any impurities before starting to drink himself.

Augustine looked annoyed but didn't protest. He just wanted some more alone time.He watched the group slowly assemble and waited for Molly to head out.

Alas, looking at Mercie for guidance didn't get Tabor anywhere since she simply got up to get a drink. He fidgeted then got up taking a few steps towards the cave entrance, but largely avoiding Molly and Augy.

Molly stood and waited with Augustine a few yards away from the den and river. Why everyone didn't drink while they were gone was beyond her. Nevertheless, she waited patiently.

Nadine sighed heavily before getting up on her feet and lazily walked out of the cave ahead of the others.

Mercie glanced at Tabor and headed up towards the boss. Hungry and ready to kill something small and fluffy.

Molly watched as everyone slowly gathered nearer. Turning her back to them, she took off in a run through the forest. Perhaps there were more animals where they had gotten some last night?

Kenny was running along near the back, purposefully trying to slow down so he didn't wind up tripping anyone or catching any attention. This gave him a sick feeling in his stomach, but so many things did these days...

Seeing no reason to try and fight it, Nadine trotted along at the back of the group just fast enough to keep up.

Molly led the group to where they had hunted the night before. The excavators hadn't gotten to this area yet, but they could be heard off in the distance. The smashing of tree and animal bones echoed all around them. As they neared the rabbit location, Molly slowed the group and bent her body lower to the ground. There was an open area of wood where the sun could dip down onto the forest floor. The grass was taller here and there were several rabbit tunnels in them, weaving all around the area.
"Tabor-" she called forth, "You need to herd the rabbits out of their tunnels, preferably heading North." She then looked at the newcomers, "Nadine and Kenny- because I know how fast the both of you are, you two are in charge of keeping up with them after they exit the tunnels. Mercie, you are with them. Rabbits can are super fast and can cut direction in a half second. I need you three to each single one out and drive them to Augustine and I. We will be stationed here and the other by that thick tree over there." If they couldn't use teamwork to hunt down a few rabbits, there was no way they could work together to save their forest.

Nadine nodded her head and began doing little stretches. Not exactly to help limber up, but just to be sarcastic.

Kenny was low on the ground, ears pricked and eyes staring wide in front of him. He was listening to the crunches in the distance... he couldn't help but remembering those terrible machines. "Y-yeah" he muttered to Molly "Chase rabbits. Right."

Tabor perked up surprised at his name being mentioned and it took him an odd second or two to process what she had said. "Alright," he said, feeling embarrassed and he ran off to get to work.

Mercie knew how this was probably going to go down. With their number they could easily take down something bigger than a mess of rabbits but the sound of the machines had probably caused the more intelligent animals to run off. This would take stamina and the ability to keep pace with the rabbits without loosing them. Tire out their prey, that was always the name of the game before they killed.

Molly kept low and took a glance to Augustine, not sure how he would take her orders. He never really took anyone's orders and she wondered if this time would be different. "I'll go my the oak tree over there." she said, gesturing to it across the way. Without waiting for a reply, she slunked off around the treeline, staying hidden and silent.
